Firespike

Firespike, Odontonema tubaeforme or Odontonema cuspidatum, have glossy, dark leaves with long, shiny tubular flowers that attract butterflies and bees. These shrubs can grow anywhere from 4 to 8 feet or more. Firespike grows best in tropical climates, loving hot weather, plenty of water and humidity, and full sun or partial shade. 

Here are the main care requirements for growing firespike plants:

• Plant in the spring in rich, slightly acidic or neutral soil.
• Likes well-draining soil; tolerates sandy substrate.
• Grows best in hot, humid weather.
• Keep soil moist.
• Plant in partial or full sun.
• Tolerates light frost; heavy frost will kill it.
